Where ^AVRG began
I created Above Average Clothing because I wanted a brand that actually reflected who I am — not just how I want to be seen.
It started when I got back into playing the drums in my mid-forties and began sharing videos online. I called myself AverageDrummer because that felt honest. It’s what I was — or at least what I hoped to be.
But there was always that quiet voice in the background:
“What if I’m not good enough?”
^AVRG™ is my answer to that feeling.
Not perfection. Presence.
This isn’t a brand built on perfection or ego.
It’s built on presence. On process. On showing up — even when doubt creeps in.
On doing it anyway.
Because you love it.
The name comes from what it really means to be above average.
Not in status.
Not in stats.
But in mindset.
What “Above Average” really means
To be above average is to keep going when no one’s watching.
To value growth over praise.
To quietly choose better — for yourself, your work, and the world around you.
That’s why Above Average stands for more than just a logo.
It’s a mark for:
- The quietly relentless
- The rarely perfect
- The always present
Built better, not just said better
All clothing is made using organic cotton or recycled fabrics, produced on demand in the UK utilising renewable energy.
Because if I’m building something better, it should be better in every way — not just in what it says, but in how it’s made.
No excess stock.
No rushed production.
Just considered choices, made to last.
Who this is for
This brand is for the ones who care.
The ones who keep showing up.
Even when they’re unsure.
Even when they feel average.
Because showing up — that’s above average.
If any of this sounds even a little bit like you, then you’re already one of us.
Check out the drumming if you want — just know I’ll probably still be wondering if I’m good enough.
