The Story Behind Too Red

Too Red are a Glasgow-based rock duo made up of Darcy Brook (vocals, guitar) and Emily Irving (drums, vocals).

Formed in 2019, the band quickly built a reputation for energetic live performances and a sound that blends rock, metal and modern alternative influences. Their journey took a major step forward in 2024 when Darcy joined the band, sparking a creative reset and helping shape a heavier, more focused direction that better reflected who Too Red wanted to be.

That new chapter has already delivered some huge moments. In March 2026, the band sold out their headline EP launch show at Nice N Sleazy in Glasgow — a milestone that confirmed the momentum building behind them.

What makes Too Red stand out isn't just the music. It's the fact that everything comes from two musicians determined to push the limits of what a duo can achieve. Massive guitar tones, pounding drums, layered synths and huge choruses combine to create a sound that feels far bigger than the sum of its parts.

Built to be Loud

Too Red were formed with a simple idea: to show just how powerful music can be, even when it comes from only two people.

Both Darcy and Emily grew up surrounded by heavier music and bring their own influences into the songwriting process. Emily typically develops the instrumental foundations before Darcy adds melodies and lyrics, with both members working together to shape the final song.

Behind the scenes, the duo wear multiple hats. Emily handles drums, bass and synth duties, while Darcy moves between lead guitar, rhythm guitar and vocals. It's this approach that allows Too Red to create such a huge sound both in the studio and on stage.

Their mission is simple: inspire people to create, push themselves and realise that limitations are often self-imposed.

The Sound

Powerful. Melodic. Gritty.

Drawing inspiration from bands such as The Pretty Reckless, Royal Blood, Spiritbox, VUKOVI and Biffy Clyro, Too Red sit comfortably between modern rock, alternative and metal.

Their songs combine hard-hitting riffs, powerful vocals and huge atmospheric textures while maintaining the energy and immediacy that has become a hallmark of their live performances.

🎪 Playing Download Festival is high on the bucket list. It's a stage every rock and metal band dreams about.

🎬 If the band were a film, it'd probably Dumb and Dumber. Chaotic, fun and never taking themselves too seriously.

🎭 People are often shocked by how much noise comes from just two musicians. That's exactly how they like it.

🌈 Representation and inclusion matter to Too Red. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community is an important part of who they are.

🎶 Behind the heavy riffs, you'll find plenty of unexpected singalongs. Defying Gravity is definitely one of them.

🎤 Royal Blood and The Pretty Reckless would be dream support slots. Both have had a huge influence on the band's sound.

🏟️ Headlining Glasgow's legendary Barrowland Ballroom would be a dream come true. The OVO Hydro isn't far behind.

The Serious Bit (briefly)

VALUES

Too Red care deeply about equality, inclusion, mental health awareness and supporting grassroots music.

As a queer band, representation matters. They believe music should be a place where everyone feels welcome, supported and inspired to be themselves.

The band are passionate advocates for independent music, local venues and creating opportunities for emerging artists. Whether it's supporting fellow musicians, encouraging new creators or simply helping someone discover a new favourite band, community sits at the heart of everything they do.

Too Red x Above Average

Too Red were the first band to believe in what Above Average was trying to build.

Before there were multiple collaborations, creator partnerships and growing collections, Too Red saw value in a different approach — one focused on identity, community and supporting independent music.

That shared mindset made the partnership feel natural from the beginning.

Both Too Red and Above Average believe in progress over perfection. Showing up. Putting the work in. Learning as you go. Building something meaningful one step at a time.

Whether it's creating music or building a brand, neither journey happens overnight.

And that's exactly why this partnership works.

Not Perfect. Above Average.
