The Story Behind The Seam

The Seam started with brothers Freddie and Vinnie Chapman.

The pair had already been writing songs, performing together and developing ideas, but they knew something was missing. Through family connections, they came across drummer Oliver Bougnot-Robinson after seeing him perform a cover of Creep online. When they finally got together to play, something immediately clicked.

Not long afterwards, bassist Burt Fraser joined the line-up and completed the band.

Although the members come from different musical backgrounds, they shared the same ambition from the beginning. Every member contributes ideas and influences to the songwriting process, helping shape a sound that combines gritty guitars, raw energy and a style that feels uniquely their own.

What started as a few friends making music together quickly became something more serious.

From Living Rooms to Release Day

Like many bands, The Seam's early days were spent rehearsing, experimenting and developing ideas in living rooms.

Their first proper gig took place at a charity event held at Heaven & Ale, a small micro-pub in Barnsley. The venue was cramped, the experience was new, and nobody quite knew what to expect.

What they found was a crowd that connected with the music.

That reaction helped fuel the band's belief in what they were building and gave them the confidence to keep pushing forward.

A major turning point came with the release of their debut single, Where'd Ya Go.

Before recording, they were simply a group of friends creating music together. Suddenly they had something tangible. A song they could revisit, share and put out into the world for others to discover.

For The Seam, that release represented the beginning of a journey rather than a destination.

The Sound

Energetic.Raw. Powerful.

The Seam combine the energy of modern indie rock with gritty guitars, memorable hooks and a live show designed to pull audiences into the moment.

Fans of Wunderhorse, Keo, Bleech 9:3, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Arctic Monkeys will find plenty to connect with, but The Seam's identity comes from the combination of four different personalities and musical backgrounds.

Every member contributes to the writing process, allowing ideas to evolve naturally and giving the band's music a distinct character of its own.

Their goal isn't simply to create songs people enjoy.

They want people to remember the moment they first discovered them.

VALUES

For The Seam, music has always been about more than simply playing songs.

The band stands for friendship, loyalty and respect.

Those values exist within the group itself, but they also extend to the people who support them, the communities they come from and the audiences they play for.

When asked what matters most, their answer is impact.

They believe that meaningful music creates connection, and that connection is what helps a band grow.

Their interpretation of "progress over perfection" is simple: get a little better every day, learn from experience and keep moving forward.

The Seam x Above Average

The Seam represent exactly the kind of band culture Above Average was built around.

Not manufactured. Not chasing trends.

Just a group of people committed to creating something meaningful through music.

Built on friendship, ambition and a genuine love of the craft, they're part of a new generation of artists carving their own path and bringing people along for the ride.

Not Perfect. Above Average.
