FOUND THROUGH MUSIC.
The collaboration

FOUND THROUGH MUSIC.

Layla’s connection with Above Average started naturally — she found the brand, liked what was being built and reached out.

For a guitarist whose own style has been shaped by the music she grew up listening to, it made sense. From 2000s punk and alternative culture to the community she’s building around guitar today, music isn’t just something Layla plays. It influences how she dresses, what she creates and where she wants to go next.

That’s exactly what Made For Music is about.

MEET LAYLA

CREATIVE BY NATURE.

Layla Rose Harrod is a guitarist and music creator from the South coast of Devon.

Currently studying Maths, Physics and Music at A-Level, she describes herself as creative, logical and naturally introverted. Away from studying, there’s skateboarding, golf and — unsurprisingly — a LOT of music.

Online, Layla has built a growing community around guitar and the music she genuinely loves. Covers sit at the heart of her content: picking up the guitar, putting on a track and sharing the process with people who get it.

For Layla, though, creating content was never just about numbers. It was an opportunity to meet people, share what she loves and build a community around music.

THE STORY

IT STARTED WITH AVRIL.

Long before the content and the online community, there was an Avril Lavigne CD being played on repeat.

Layla was hooked. The music, the guitars and the attitude opened the door to a world she wanted to be part of.

There was another influence much closer to home. Her dad played guitar, and growing up listening to him made Layla want to pick one up herself. At nine years old, she got her first guitar and started learning.

The bands that followed tell you plenty about where her sound and style come from: Green Day, Sum 41, Muse, Radiohead — with Avril Lavigne remaining one of the biggest influences.

Today, Layla plays everything from rock and metal to whatever else catches her attention. Her main electric is a PRS SE NF3, alongside a Fender acoustic, with Blackstar and Boss forming part of her everyday setup.

But covers aren't the end goal.

Layla wants to write and record music of her own, take it onto a stage and, potentially, find the right band to do it with.

The community she's building now is only the beginning.
