MEET EMILY

Emily Irving is a Glasgow-born drummer who first picked up the sticks at seven and joined her first band at fourteen.

Since then, drumming has taken her from rehearsal rooms to recording sessions and live stages, working across a range of projects including Too Red, The Drive and The Invaines.

Today, she balances live and session work with content creation - sharing the playing, practice and everyday reality that sits behind being a working drummer.

At the centre of it all is the same thing that got her started: playing drums and getting better at it.

THE STORY

Emily’s journey behind the kit started at just seven years old, with her first band following at fourteen. Since then, she’s built a career around actually doing the work — playing live, recording, teaching and creating.

Along the way she’s worked across a range of projects, from The Drive and The Invaines to her role behind the kit with Glasgow rock duo Too Red, where her powerful, groove-led playing is a huge part of the band’s sound.

Her work behind that kit has also led to relationships within the wider drum industry, including Collision Drumsticks and Protection Racket — brands built around the musicians who use their gear night after night. And now, Emily is also an Above Average endorser, representing a clothing brand built around the same music community she's part of every day.

Whether it’s a live show, a session, a lesson or something filmed from behind the kit, Emily’s approach stays remarkably consistent: put the work in, keep progressing and let the playing do the talking.
